His passion for BJJ and commitment to helping others grow is sure to make an impact. Be sure to catch one of his classes and give him a warm welcome! He will be Coaching in the mornings at 6:20am on Fridays!

Prof. Scotty Gri-in is a Legion American Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Sloan “Caveman”Clymer and Keenan Cornelius.

Scotty started training in martial arts in 2008, with his first exposure to modern jiu-jitsu in 2009 while training in MMA. He competed in amateur MMA with a 1-0 record and had an amateur boxing record of 1-1 before deciding to focus on grappling. He wrestled for Simpson University from 2014-2017, where he su-ered a severe knee injury that led to repeated surgeries, prompting him to seek safer training methods as a blue belt, eventually leading him to start a career in medicine after earning his black belt. As a Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine medical student, Scotty is passionate about developing the fastest and most innovative learning and training methods. This passion carries over into his jiu-jitsu teaching methodology. He firmly believes that the quality of mat time trumps the quantity of mat time and is equally passionate about the role of competition in a student’s development. Before teaching at RAM, Scotty trained at some of the biggest jiu-jitsu camps in the world, including four years at ATOS headquarters and 12 months at Legion AJJ in San Diego. He is also a volunteer coach for the Liberty University Men’s Wrestling Club.

We are excited to have him teaching and training here at RAM!
